NEW DELHI: The capital’s IGI airport may have high-speed connectivity with the upcoming Jewar airport in Greater Noida. The UP government is in favour of a direct link between the two airports, as many passengers flying into one of them will have connecting flights from the other.
And given the traffic situation — even today — driving from one place to the other may mean people missing flights once the Jewar airport becomes operational in four to five years. Even taking the planned indirect Metro network may not be of much help for passengers with a tight connection time.
“A direct link is needed between the two airports. We will soon appoint a consultant to see what this link should be, whether a rapid rail, underground metro or something else,” said Prabhat Kumar, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) chairman.

“The consultant will identify a direct link between the two airports which will be in addition to the proposed Metro line which will be extended to Jewar,” said Kumar, an experienced aviation hand who has earlier worked as a senior official in the aviation ministry and then headed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
Taking connections from different airports is a common thing in cities with multiple airports like New York and London. Even today, driving between IGIA and Jewar takes over two hours. When Jewar airport becomes operational and traffic grows manifold, the road travel time will also increase substantially.

The metro line currently cleared till Pari Chowk in Greater Noida will be extended to Jewar. The proposed link is about 23 km, connecting Pari Chowk to YEIDA Sector 20, and will be at road level. However for passengers with connecting flights within, say, two to three hours, this will not be viable option. Low connecting time is one of the main criteria for passengers booking flights, apart from fares.
IGIA also has a high speed metro connectivity with Delhi city centre. In addition, Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) will build a 5.5-km-long air train between the terminal 1, 3 and 2 to facilitate transit passengers moving from one terminal to the other. The average costing of each km of under and overground metro line is up to Rs 500 and Rs 200 crore, respectively.

Hence, we can say that the residential projects parallel to Noida Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway would get location advantage. Project such as Jaypee Greens Greater Noida and Wish Town are the large project with premium class of people, would be connected to AIRWAY also very soon.

Authority team inspects site of delayed project, tells builders to deliver in 30 days

A team from the Noida authority on Tuesday inspected the under-construction PAN Oasis housing project in Sector 70. It asked the builder to complete in a month all pending work for the project’s first six towers that are nearing completion.

The pending issues include fixing seepage and making lifts in all six towers fully operational. The flats in these towers are about to be ready for an occupation certificate (OC). As per norms, a buyer cannot execute registry of a flat without an OC.

“Once the builder completes all pending work and submits a compliance report and other important papers, the Noida authority will issue an OC in respect of that project,” said SC Gaur, chief architect and town planner, Noida authority.

To address home buyers’ issues, the authority is conducting inspections at project sites of various builders. On Tuesday, many affected buyers too gathered at the spot when the team, consisting of officials from the authority’s planning and other departments, reached the site in Sector 70.

Developers Patel Group, Amrapali Group and Nirala Developers are building PAN Oasis, an 18-tower project with 2,000 flats. It was announced in 2009 and the developers had promised to hand over possession to buyers by 2012.

“Even after a four-year delay we have not been able to get the registry of flats executed because the builder is yet to complete some work and deposit land dues to the authority,” said Sunny Longani, a buyer.

Another home buyer, Kapil Kumar said, “I had booked a 2-BHK flat in September 2009 and the realtor had assured possession by July 2012. I am paying EMIs as well as rent for the last four years because my builder faulted on several accounts in delivering the project.”

The realtors, however, said they will be able to deliver the six towers in the next 30 days.

“We are working to complete the remaining 12 residential towers in the next six months. In towers A, B, C and D everything is ready and we will be submitting the remaining land dues in the next two to three days to get OC. Pending work on one lift each in the two other towers – R and S – is in full swing. The six towers will be completed in the next one month,” said Rajiv Gupta, the project’s deputy general manager (sales and marketing).

Town planner Gaur said the inspections will continue until all projects against which buyers have complaints are covered. “We will decide on Wednesday morning which project the team will visit that day. We have formed two teams. On Tuesday, only one team went for an inspection,” he said.
